Well hey! It’s me, on a road in Alaska. I can wholeheartedly say that Alaska is the place for adventure. If you’re looking for something unique and out of the box, then Alaska is the certainly one of my top options.
Anchorage Alaska is the main hub on the interior. With the main airport, shopping, University and biggest city in the state, you’re bound to find what you need in Anchorage. The best news, is that Anchorage is also the launch point for so many of the state’s great adventures. From flights, to drives, to flights + drives – it has it all. So here are a few of my main tips when considering an elopement in Anchorage, Alaska!
When you are considering an elopement around Anchorage, Alaska the first thing you’ll need to do is get there. Ted Stevens International Airport is centrally located 10 min from downtown, and cateres to multiple airlines including United, Delta, Frontier, Alaska, American, and a host of smaller airlines. There are countless flights a day, with summer bringing the most visitors to the area. I would highly suggest that you book your flights as soon as you know that you want to elope in Anchorage, because the farther out the cheaper they tend to be!
Summer (roughly June to August): Summer is the warmest season in Anchorage, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to mid-60s and sometimes higher. Summer in Anchorage is the best time for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. However, be aware that summer also brings more tourists and higher prices for accommodations and activities.
Summer elopements in Alaska bring a host of benefits- including long daylight hours, wildlife viewing, incredible wildflowers and access to some of the more remote areas of the state.
Fall (September to November) is a beautiful time in Anchorage, with the leaves changing color and crisp, cool weather. I have never before seen colors as vibrant as I have in Alaska, so I thoroughly believe this time of year is clutch for those wanting a more moody elopement vibe. The other perk to a fall elopement in Alaska is that you won’t be battling crowds or the mosquitos!
Winter (December to February): Winter in Anchorage can be harsh, with cold temperatures, snow, and icy conditions. However, this is also the best time for snow sports and dog sledding or if you’re feeling particularly bold you can always land on a glacier and get a seriously winter wonderland! This elopement has to be one of the most spectacular elopements I have ever had the privilege of witnessing. Check it out here!
Spring (March to May): Spring is a transition season in Anchorage, with slowly warming temperatures and the return of sunlight after a long, dark winter. This is a great time to see the northern lights and take advantage of discounted prices for accommodations and activities. It is also “Breakup” season in Anchorage, when the ice melts and it can often be muddy. It is a little less enjoyable to hit the outdoor activities this time of year because the conditions are less ideal.
