Dr. Seuss may have said this infamous and personal favorite of quotes, but manifesting that? Easier said than done.
That is… until you stuff your blow up Dinosaur costumes in your carry on bags on a flight from Indianapolis to Denver and have a photoshoot at Red Rocks and basically embrace this quote with your whole entire heart. Aka what you see here. Aka pure joy.
When J+S booked with me, and were tossing around location suggestions, they told me that they were planning to bring their trex costumes with them, I was SMITTEN. I had written a blog post about “Tips For a Fun Engagement Shoot” several months back where I casually mentioned that you should be you and comfortable and fun for your engagement shoot, and if you wanted to wear a Dino costume, well that would be just fine by me. Low and behold, it has happened. And I could not be a happier or more fulfilled human.
Sometimes in the world of photography, we (just like everybody else) tend to get caught up in fulfilling trends and sticking to what’s comfortable, familiar and well liked. This is really when creativity is provoked, and we are forced to sit with a bit of discomfort as we embrace something that feels right and true, even if a bit scary and weird or different.
Needless to say, the other side of that coin is that giving the middle finger to ‘supposed to’ feels really damn good and you should follow what makes your heart sing. In this case, tromping around Colorado in Dino costumes because nothing says I love you like dinosaurs and rocks.
Other than the fact that this is inherently awesome, it was also so much fun. As the park was starting to close, the last of the days visitors were piling out and as each and every one of them passed us, phones were out and pictures being snapped.
One elderly couple even stopped and rolled down the window, saying that their grandkids love dinosaurs and asked if they could take a photo of them. It was literal magic ya’ll, and I just can’t believe I was lucky enough to be the one to capture it.
Since one of my most favorite types of photoshoots are engagement sessions, I make sure to sweeten the deal when you book with me. For every booking of 8 hours or more, you receive a bonus hour to use as you like- this could be lifestyle, in home, adventure or engagements session. So think about all the magic that can unfold during this fun carefree hours, and let’s make some epic memories!
