Colorado has to be one of the most stunning and diverse locations to elope. Whether you are mountain, lake, forest, plains or city folks, Colorado just about has it covered. (Beach people, I suppose we have reservoirs…and Alpine lakes)
Here are some of the top reasons to consider eloping in Colorado, and why I think it’s an easy choice.
1- Self solemnization.
In my professional opinion, this is one of the greatest things about choosing to elope in Colorado. Within the self-solemnization definition, you can marry yourselves, have a friend, pet, bottle of whiskey, stranger, parent or the colors of the wind marry you. Not only is it wildly convenient and cost saving, but it lends itself towards as deeply personal moment between you and your SO. It just basically means you don’t have to organized for someone you barely know to say some personal thing about you. Instead, you can have your dog do it. Which is way cooler.
Be sure to book your appointment to get your Marriage License early! It’s a straightforward process, but don’t recommend leaving it to the last minute.
2- Seasonal options.
Eloping in Colorado is acceptable at just about any month of the year. Obviously there are certain considerations to take into account for a winter wedding, just as easily as there are for summer weddings. But what makes it even more beautiful is that really no matter what time of year you choose to elope in Colorado, you will find breathtaking views. Plus, it’s not humid here. Which is honestly one of the greatest things!
3- The people.
I like to think that mountain people have a certain chill about them. I think it is generally agreed that life slows down a bit in the mountains, and people take time to give a little more care to strangers.
For the large majority of Coloradoans, care for the outdoors and preserving a sense of environmental integrity is a big value. So not only are you going to he surrounded by people that care and try to do good in the world, but you’re going to find that they also care and want to do good for you. The wedding industry in this state is vast- and as your elopement photographer I’ve had the pleasure of working with a large number of these vendors, and can be helpful in recommending them to you!
